National Instruments Is Bullish on Thailand, Strengthens Presence in Bangkok

National Instruments

SINGAPORE--(Marketwire - July 9, 2012) -

News Highlights:

NI sees significant growth opportunities in Thailand's hard disk drive, electronics manufacturing, energy and oil & gas sectors

NI marks 10th year in Thailand with office expansion in downtown Chatuchak, Bangkok

New office to serve as customer service and training center

National Instruments (NI) is bullish on Thailand, seeing significant growth opportunities in the hard disk drive, electronics, power and oil & gas industries among others, as it marks its 10th year in the country. Chandran Nair, Managing Director of National Instruments for Southeast Asia, shared this view at the inauguration of NI's new office in Thailand today.

"National Instruments' business in Thailand has grown from strength to strength since we established our presence here in 2002. We are pleased to open the doors of our new office and engage more closely with our customers and partners in high-growth sectors like hard disk drive, electronics manufacturing, energy and oil & gas industries," Nair says.

The larger premises at the Suntowers building on Vibhavadi-Rangsit Road in Chompon, Chatuchak, Bangkok will serve as the hub for NI's customer service programs and industry-leading technical trainings.

"Our commitment as an investor in Thailand is definitely long-term. We are looking forward to growing the NI team here, collaborating with more universities, and enabling competitiveness across customer verticals," he adds.

NI is partner to some of the world leading companies that have production facilities in Thailand such as Sony Technology (Thailand), Thai Summit Autoparts Industry Co. Ltd, Seagate Technology (Thailand) and PTT Public Company Ltd; as well as large multinational and local players in the automotive, energy, and oil & gas sectors.

"Asia-Pacific contributes about 30 percent to our global revenue. Our rapid expansion in this region, particularly in developing countries like Thailand, is a testament to the scale and speed with which Asian economies are rising," Nair says.

Thailand is the second largest economy is Southeast Asia, after Indonesia. Despite last year's devastating floods, Thailand has registered positive results in the first quarter of 2012. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has also announced a rosy outlook for Thailand, predicting economic growth at 5.5 and 7.5 percent in 2012 and 2013, respectively.

"Thailand is admirably resilient. The economy has bounced back quickly, and the hard disk drive industry, which is the largest in Asia, has gotten back on track since the floods," he shares. Indicators have shown that hard disk drive production levels will grow 20% year-on-year by 2013.

Thailand is also important for NI in the research and academic field. NI has long-stand partnerships with universities such as King Mongkut's Institute of Technology Ladkrabang, King Mongkut's University of Technology North Bangkok. Notable programs include the annual Graphical Design System (GSD) Summit, Science, Technology, Engineering Exchange Laboratory (STEEL) Program, and the LabVIEW Academy.

China Express Airlines Confirms Order for Six Bombardier CRJ900 NextGen Aircraft

Bombardier Aerospace

- Airline to introduce CRJ900 aircraft service to China

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - July 9, 2012) - Bombardier Aerospace announced today that China Express Airlines has converted a previously announced conditional order for six CRJ900 NextGenregional jets to a firm order. The transaction includes options on an additional five CRJ900 NextGen aircraft.

As previously announced, and based on the list price of the CRJ900 NextGen airliner, the firm order contract is valued at approximately $264 million US, and could increase to approximately $491 million US should the five options be converted to firm orders.

Bombardier announced on October 26, 2011 that a Chinese airline, which at that time wished to be unidentified, had placed a conditional order for CRJ900 NextGen jetliners. On February 9, 2012, Bombardier confirmed that the order had been placed by China Express Airlines.

"Our five 50-seat CRJ200 regional jets have served us very well since we started operations in 2006, and we are confident that the CRJ900 NextGen aircraft, which offers excellent economics, will support the growing passenger demand on our larger routes," said Hu Xiaojun, Chairman, China Express.

China Express, which is China''s first private regional airline, is based in Guiyang, Guizhou and currently provides regional passenger services with its fleet of five CRJ200 aircraft. The airline will be the first to launch CRJ900 aircraft service in China.

"As the only aircraft manufacturer with three distinct and optimized families of aircraft in the 60- to 149-seat market segment, Bombardier is well positioned to support the growth of China''s air transport network, and we are delighted that China Express has firmed up its order for six CRJ900 NextGen aircraft and will introduce the aircraft to China," said Mike Arcamone, President, Bombardier Commercial Aircraft. "Currently more than 100 Bombardier-produced commercial and business aircraft are operating in China and we look forward to welcoming many more operators in the country."

"In our Market Forecast for 2012 to 2031 that was released on June 19 this year, Bombardier predicts a demand for approximately 2,200 commercial aircraft in the 60- to 149-seat segment in China," said Andy Solem, Vice President, Sales, China and North Asia, Bombardier Commercial Aircraft. "We are working closely with local airlines, suppliers and stakeholders to assist in fleet and infrastructure expansion to support the development of China''s fleet of commercial aircraft as it grows to become the world''s second largest market for new aircraft deliveries, following closely behind the United States."

CRJ900 NextGen aircraft

Like other members of the CRJ Series family of aircraft, the light weight and advanced aerodynamics of the CRJ900 NextGen regional jet combine to deliver improved efficiency and reduced operating costs compared to other aircraft in its class. The combination of a larger winglet and other optimizations since the launch of the CRJ900 aircraft, give the CRJ900 NextGen regional jet excellent airfield and en-route fuel consumption. All CRJ NextGen aircraft feature new interiors with larger overhead luggage bins, larger windows, improved lighting and redesigned ceiling panels and sidewalls.

Including the order from China Express announced today, Bombardier has recorded firm orders for 1,735 CRJ Series aircraft, including 274 CRJ900 and CRJ900 NextGen aircraft. Worldwide, CRJ Series aircraft are in service with more than 60 airlines and more than 30 customers operate corporate variants of the aircraft. The aircraft are operating in over 50 countries on six continents, and on average, a CRJ aircraft takes off every ten seconds somewhere in the world. CRJ Series aircraft have transported more than 1.2 billion passengers and have logged more than 33 million flight hours and over 28 million takeoffs and landings.
